IL MERCATO

Use: Reception Hall
Location: New Orleans, LA
Size: 10,000 SF
Category: Architecture & Interiors

Built in the 1930s as the Magazine Street Food Market, the building now known as Il Mercato is located in the Lower Garden District. In order to maintain the design concept of the client while navigating the complex requirements of the historic tax credit process, close collaboration was necessary between NANO and the State Historic Preservation Office, the National Park Service, and the Historic District Landmark Commission. The end result is a building perfectly suited to its new life as an event space that pays tribute to its past.

This project was honored with a 2015 Louisiana Landmarks Society Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation.
